The PA House of Representatives will vote on the Marriage Protection Amendment (MPA) to the state constitution toprevent state judges from redefining marriage. The vote will be close. MPA opponents are organized and vocal and conservatives have been virtually silent. Some legislators say they've been receiving many letters and even visits from MPA opponents while not hearing much at all from MPA supporters. This must change.
ACTION REQUESTED:
1) Call, email, fax or write your state representative and state senatorthis week. Call capitol information 1-717-787-2121 to get their Harrisburgoffice phone number. When calling, you may obtain their email address, faxnumber and local office phone numbers also. (See PA Senate Email addressbelow.)
2) Call several times using one or two different talking points each time.Call different offices.
3) Spread the word. Ask at least one friend to call their state rep andstate senator with you. TALKING POINTS:1) Voters in 19 states have passed amendments to their state constitutionto protect marriage from state judges who would redefine marriage and tellthe People that marriage between a man and woman is outdated. a) The Peopleof at least six more states will vote in the Fall 2006 for a total of 25 ofof the fifty states. b) State marriage amendments have passed in everystate where the People have voted. c) According to PA Family Institute, polls consistently show that large majorities of Pennsylvanians in everyregion of the state believe marriage should remain the union of one man andone woman. d) A state judge in nearby Baltimore has already declaredMaryland's defense of marriage act unconstitutional. e) As with the payraise, the will of the People is clear. f) Clearly, the People did not wantthe pay raise, and they do not want a judge to define marriage for them. i)Like the pay raise, legislators once again ignore the will of the People attheir peril. 2) I urge you to pass the proposed Marriage Protection Amendment (MPA)without weakening amendments.
